Business systems we built, and still run

Loyalty programmes, gift-card platforms and the private systems a business runs on every day. We build them on WordPress, host them and keep them running. GiftBucks has been a client since 2003.

Loyalty programmes

If you are comparing loyalty program software in South Africa, the first choice is not which app. It is whether an off-the-shelf app can run your programme, or whether it needs a platform built for your business. For a simple programme, an app may be all you need.

We build the second kind: loyalty and rewards platforms that run on your rules, under your name or your clients’ names.

We built an invite-only rewards platform for Oxygen Mobile, a product reseller, where products are bought with earned points or with cash. Global Choices, also invite-only, runs one of the white-label platforms we built for GiftBucks. Both are white-label: made to run under another company’s name.

Running a customer loyalty programme in South Africa

Loyalty programme software: an off-the-shelf app or a custom platform?

Gift-card and prepaid-card platforms

A gift-card platform has a public side, for the people who buy and use the cards, and a private system behind it. GiftBucks runs on both, and we built both.

Case study: GiftBucks

GiftBucks sells gift cards. As at 28 September 2026, giftbucks.co.za offers reloadable, prepaid Mastercard gift cards, accepted throughout South Africa, for personal gifts and for companies rewarding their staff and sales channels. It is also where people buy, activate and top up their cards and check their balances.

We built that website, and a second one for GiftBucks, giftcardsandvouchers.co.za; as at 28 September 2026, both carry our credit in their footers. We also built the first version of GiftBucks’ card management system, a private system with no public access. When that version’s code could no longer be maintained, we rebuilt the system as a custom WordPress plugin with current security, and it runs on our hosting.

GiftBucks began as Creative Incentives and has been our client since 2003, a relationship more than twenty years old and still active.

The GiftBucks story

CRM and client billing

When the CRM or billing product you have tried makes your team work around it, we build one around the way your business already works. It holds your clients, what you have done for them and what they owe, as a custom plugin connected to the software you already run, such as your accounting package. As with every system we build, CRM development starts with discovery.

The system we run for Network Dynamics is an ordering, delivery and invoicing system that runs the business day to day. Recent builds show the rest of the range. For Financial Crime Risk Management Consultants (FCRMC), a client since 2009, the 2025 rebuild added a custom plugin that matches their clients and suppliers using AI. Thrive Raw Food For Dogs’ online store, which we built in 2025, includes recurring billing: as at 28 September 2026, its Wild Origins venison food is offered on subscription. And the booking management system we built in 2024 for Mediation in Motion Mediators (MIMM) has recurring billing too.

If your clients should log in to see their own records, what you need is a client portal: bookings, memberships and client portals on WordPress sets out what to build and what to buy.

How a systems project runs

  1. Discovery
We work out what the system has to do, who will use it, what it must connect to and what it will cost. The first discovery and quote are free; if you go ahead, the build starts with a detailed scoping phase, included in the price.
  2. Build
We build on WordPress, writing the part that is yours as a custom plugin, to the scope agreed in discovery.
  3. Test and review
You try the system with the people who will use it before it goes live. The rounds of changes included are agreed in discovery.
  4. Launch and keep it running
We can host the system and keep it running, as we do for GiftBucks and Network Dynamics, and rebuild it when the technology under it ages, rather than abandon it.

What it costs to scope

Scoping a system costs you nothing to start: the first discovery and quote are free. The build starts from R65,000 incl. VAT, quoted once discovery has fixed the scope, and it begins with a detailed scoping phase, included in the price. All prices are in South African rand (ZAR).

Discovery

Free

What your system has to do and a quote for the build, worked out before anything is built.

Before the build

If you go ahead, detailed scoping is the build’s first phase, included in the price.

Custom & Systems

from R65,000 incl. VAT

Loyalty and rewards platforms, custom plugins, integrations with the software you run, and legacy migrations.

Timeline set in discovery

Quoted after discovery. Nothing is fixed until it has been scoped.

Professional

from R25,000 incl. VAT

When a standard store, booking system, membership site or learning platform will do the job, one of them comes with our Professional website package, with no custom plugin work.

Typically 4 weeks

Not included: custom plugins, and accounting or ERP integrations. Those are Custom & Systems work.

Once the build is under way, work outside the agreed scope is quoted per task before we start.

Why this is different from buying a website

A website is a job we can price before we start: we know what our Business and Professional packages involve, so each has a published price. A system can’t be priced that way until someone has worked out your rules, your users and what the system must connect to. That is what discovery is for.

A system is also something your business runs on every day, so it has to outlast the technology it was built with. Network Dynamics, whose card is below, is more than twenty years into its relationship with us, and its business still runs on the logistics management system we first built for it, since rebuilt as a custom WordPress plugin. The same platform runs as 365ZIM, a separate, white-label installation for the same owner’s business in Zimbabwe.

Not everything we keep running is WordPress. smscodes.co.za, a short-code and USSD lookup service we built in 2010, is still ours to run. South Africa’s mobile networks have paid to keep its data current ever since, and today Vodacom pays for its upkeep.

Custom web application development in South Africa is not new to us: our website sold it in 2005, beside database sites and online stores. We have changed technology three times since 2001 without changing what we do. So when you commission a system, ask more than what it costs to build. Ask who will look after it when the technology under it changes.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best loyalty program app?

There isn’t one best app, because programmes work differently: a stamp card, points, tiers and prepaid or gift cards each need different rules. The best app for you is the one that runs your programme’s rules without workarounds. If none does, or the programme has to carry your own name or connect to your other systems, a platform built for your business is the better fit.

What is the best app for loyalty cards in South Africa?

None is best for every South African business, so compare the ones you are considering on four questions. Do they work with the way your customers pay? Whose name do your members see? Can you take your members’ details with you if you leave? And what will the fees be as the programme grows? If the answers don’t suit your business, the programme may need a platform of its own.

Can the platform run under our name, or our clients’ names?

Yes. A platform we build for you carries your name, and several we have built run under other companies’ names: the white-label reward platforms that GiftBucks’ clients run, and 365ZIM, which runs Network Dynamics’ logistics platform under its own name in Zimbabwe. One Loyalty used more than 50 white-label rewards platforms we built to provide third-party assist services to its insurance clients.

Can you take over a system someone else built?

Yes. Taking over somebody else’s project is part of our work, and so is rebuilding a system that has aged: GiftBucks’ and Network Dynamics’ systems both run as custom WordPress plugins today. Either way, it starts with a free discovery and quote.

Why build a business system on WordPress?

Because much of what a business system needs already exists and is maintained. As at 28 September 2026, WordPress’s guide to roles and capabilities says roles let a site owner control what each user can and cannot do, and that new roles can be added. On the same date, WordPress’s security page says its Security Team works to identify and resolve security issues across the core software. We write the part that is yours as a custom plugin.

Who owns the system and its code?

Your website and its content are yours, and you can move them wherever you like. Custom code we write stays our copyright, and you are licensed to use it on your own site. You may not copy it to other sites or sell it without our consent. If you need to own custom code outright, we agree that in writing before the work starts.

How long does a custom system take to build?

It depends on the scope, so the timeline is set in discovery, together with the price. As a comparison, a standard store, booking system or membership site on our Professional package typically takes four weeks.

Do you work with businesses outside Johannesburg?

Yes. We work from Midrand, Johannesburg. Since 2001, Fyre has built and run sites and systems for South African businesses, and for clients internationally in the UK, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe. In Zimbabwe, 365ZIM runs a business on a platform we built. Our prices are the same wherever you are, quoted and billed in rand; a client outside South Africa carries the currency conversion and cross-border bank charges.
