GiftBucks — websites, a card management system and white-label reward platforms
A client since 2003. We built two of GiftBucks’ websites, its private card management system and white-label reward platforms for its clients. The gift-card platform dates from 2007, and its latest version, built in 2026, runs on WordPress with custom plugin code.

The situation
GiftBucks sells gift cards. As at 28 September 2026, giftbucks.co.za offers reloadable, prepaid Mastercard gift cards, accepted throughout South Africa, to people giving a gift and to companies rewarding their staff and sales channels.
GiftBucks began as Creative Incentives, and has been our client since 2003. Its gift-card platform is younger than the relationship: it dates from 2007. We built the first version of GiftBucks’ card management system, and over the years that version’s code aged to the point where it could no longer be maintained.
What we built
The platform was rebuilt in 2016 and again in 2022, and its latest version, built in 2026, runs on WordPress with custom plugin code. We rebuilt the GiftBucks Card Management System, a private system, as a custom WordPress plugin with current security.
Beyond the system, we built two of GiftBucks’ websites, giftbucks.co.za and giftcardsandvouchers.co.za. As at 28 September 2026, the second sells retail gift cards and vouchers from well-known brands, and both carry our credit in their footers.
We have also built many reward systems for GiftBucks, among them white-label reward platforms that its clients run under their own names. One is Global Choices, an invite-only rewards platform where members buy products with the points they have earned, or with cash.
How it works
Each part serves different people. As at 28 September 2026, giftbucks.co.za is where people buy a GiftBucks card, activate it, check its balance and top it up, and GiftBucks’ top-up page takes payment through PayFast. On giftcardsandvouchers.co.za, on the same date, a buyer selects a brand, adds a message if they want to, pays and clicks Send.
GiftBucks’ clients use the white-label reward platforms. White-label means each platform carries the client’s name rather than GiftBucks’, so to the people using it, it is that company’s own reward platform.
The card management system has no public access, which is why the screenshot on this page shows giftbucks.co.za rather than the system itself.
What changed
GiftBucks’ card management system no longer runs on code that could not be maintained: we built its first version, rebuilt it and host it today. More than twenty years into a relationship that began in 2003, we have also built two of GiftBucks’ websites and the reward platforms its clients run under their own names.
What it runs on
The card management system runs as a custom WordPress plugin, on our hosting.
Building the system on WordPress means the core software the plugin runs on has a security team of its own: as at 28 September 2026, WordPress’s security page says its Security Team works to identify and resolve security issues across the WordPress core software, and to release its fixes in bugfix releases. The plugin is the part written for GiftBucks, and we rebuilt it with current security: Wordfence runs on it, as on every site we look after, it runs on a current version of PHP, and our servers carry security hardening, from locked-down file access to bot protection.
