What we build

A learning platform, or LMS, is the part of a website where people take courses: lessons in order, quizzes, a record of who has finished what, and usually a way to pay. Some businesses sell training; others train their own staff, or give clients a course as part of what they already buy.

We build them on WordPress, on your own domain and hosting, so the site, the courses and the learner records stay yours. Most of what we have built recently includes some custom plugin development, and a learning platform is often where it is needed: the course software teaches; the custom work connects it to your business.

Courses on your own website

Lessons, quizzes and progress tracking inside the site you already have, with learners logging in on your domain. FCRMC’s 2025 rebuild added a learning platform for a client who has been with us since 2009.

Selling courses

Courses listed with a price and bought online. The Professional package includes PayFast, so the platform can take payment from launch.

Private training for staff, members or clients

Behind a login, for the people you invite: staff induction, a compliance course your clients must complete, or training that comes with a membership.

The logic around the learning

When the platform has to do more than teach: match people, bill them, or talk to a system you already run. Work like that is quoted after discovery.

The learning platform we built in 2025

Financial Crime Risk Management Consultants (FCRMC) has been our client since 2009. Our 2025 rebuild of their website added a learning platform and a custom plugin that matches their clients and suppliers using AI. FCRMC Academy is, in their words as at 28 September 2026, “the dedicated training platform for our clients seeking expert-led courses in risk management, compliance, and regulatory best practices”. The course list is public, each course has a price, and the learning sits behind a login, so the picture here is the public home page.

How the AI-assisted matching was built

Hosted, WordPress or custom: which kind of LMS do you need?

One of three. A hosted platform runs on the vendor’s servers and you rent it; LearnWorlds, for example, describes itself as at 28 September 2026 as “the complete LMS software to build, deliver, and scale training programs”. A WordPress LMS plugin such as Tutor LMS, a “WordPress LMS plugin” in its own words as at the same date, adds courses to a site you own. A custom build is for when the learning has to connect to something else: membership rules, billing, a matching system, a database you already run.

We build the second and the third: a plugin-based platform inside a new site is our Professional package, priced before we start; custom work is quoted after discovery. Choosing a learning management system in South Africa weighs the three.

How we work

  1. Discovery
Who the learners are, what they must be able to do, and what the platform has to connect to. The first discovery and quote for Custom & Systems work are free. If you go ahead, the build starts with a detailed scoping phase, included in the price.
  2. Build
You supply the course material; we build the platform on WordPress, write custom plugins where the job needs them, and test on a staging copy, which the Professional package and our managed hosting include, before anything goes live.
  3. Review
You try the courses before launch, with anyone you want to include. Professional includes three rounds of revisions; for custom work they are agreed in discovery.
  4. Launch and look after
Professional includes 60 days of support after launch. After that, a care plan keeps the platform updated and monitored, updates tested on staging first, with set response times: four business hours when the site is down, for care-plan clients.

Frequently asked questions

How can I create my own LMS?

Three ways. Rent a hosted platform and build your courses on the vendor’s servers. Add an LMS plugin to a WordPress site you own. Or have one built around your own rules when the learning has to connect to billing, memberships or another system. We do the second as part of the Professional package and the third as custom work, quoted after a free first discovery.

What is LMS and examples?

An LMS, a learning management system, is software that holds courses, enrols learners, tracks their progress and usually takes payment. FCRMC Academy is one we built: a financial crime risk management consultancy’s courses, listed publicly with a price and taken behind a login. Our article on learning management system examples has others.

Is Google Classroom a LMS?

Google’s own description does not use the term. Google for Education describes Classroom, as at 28 September 2026, as “a central hub for tools and resources designed to help educators manage classrooms and enrich learning experiences”: a tool for educators and their classes. A business that needs to sell courses on its own website, under its own name, is asking for something different.

What are the top 5 LMS systems?

We don’t publish one: a top-five list depends on who is asking and what the training has to do. The useful question is which kind you need: hosted, WordPress or custom. After that, the choice comes down to who will host it, update it and fix it when it breaks.

What does a learning platform cost to build?

Inside a new website, from R25,000 incl. VAT: the Professional package, with an LMS as one of its four options, up to 20 pages, PayFast, staging and 60 days of support, typically in four weeks. Custom platforms start from R65,000 incl. VAT, quoted after a free first discovery, with detailed scoping included in the build. The full price list has every inclusion.

Can you add a learning platform to my existing website?

Yes, if the site is sound. If it is being rebuilt anyway, the platform is part of the Professional package. If it stays as it is, tell us what it runs on and we will quote the work before we start. If it is not worth building on, we will say so.

Can learners pay for courses, and can they get a certificate?

Payment, yes: the Professional package includes PayFast, and FCRMC Academy lists each course with a price. Certificates depend on the plugin: Tutor LMS, one WordPress LMS plugin, lists a certificate builder on its own page as at 28 September 2026, alongside quizzes and assignments. Tell us what the certificate has to show, and we will confirm it in scope.

I have worked closed with Claude and the Fyre team and its one of the easiest web developers to work with. He is attentive and responsive to requests at all times whether its email or Whatsapp.

He also does not pad his costs and so the service is value for money. I highly recommend Claude for hosting, web development and other services.

Tell us who you need to train

A few lines about the courses, the learners and what the platform must connect to are enough. We’ll reply with questions, a sensible next step and, where the job allows, a fixed price.
